ABOUT THE INDUSTRY

Health and wellness encircle all activities that revolve around physical and mental wellbeing from healthy eating to exercise yoga or other physical activity to personal care and beauty, according to a study conducted by McKinsey & Company "The future global wellness industry is projected towards $1.5 trillion with annual growth of 5 to 10 percent." 

Today consumers measure wellness across six segments such as better health, better fitness, better nutrition, better appearance, better sleep, better mindfulness (Exhibit 1). While some target better health and some better appearance over better sleep, the preferences differ from region to region as explained below. While all below are important but keeping a clean diet, exercising the body and adequate sleep is a must for all in today stress engrossed lifestyle.

Surveying in different countries brings to our notice that with changing demographics priorities changes. Since all the areas of Health and wellness are important but "better health" remains the most important wellness dimension and one of the highest spending areas. Also if we study the survey conducted by McKinsey & Company, Brazil spends almost 65 percent on health while Japan spends nearly 30 percent on appearance whereas Germany spends about 28 percent on fitness. (Exhibit 2).

The study further depicts 70 percent of the spend made on products and balance 30 percent on services. The future of wellness is here to stay and expand as consumers across the globe increase their reach on budgets for health, fitness, appearance, and many more. Also, the pandemic has strongly conveyed the message for the masses to keep track of mental and physical health to constantly improve the levels.

Quality nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate sleep are the keys to a healthy lifestyle. Quality nutrition enriches our body, a regular workout pumps blood into the veins keeping the energy levels high and sufficient sleep rejuvenating and replenishing body and mind. Following a healthy lifestyle helps us to keep ourselves fit and pushes us to keep our distance from cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and other over-weight-related issues.

As one said “Rome was not built in a day”, that’s also true with good health as one cant achieve optimum levels in a day, we have to constantly keep working hard towards the goal. The journey to a healthy lifestyle starts with eating clean food, a well-planned regular physical workout complimented with good rest with adequate sleep.

  • Choose healthy fat, limit high saturated fats, and avoid food with trans-fat.
  • Eat more green vegetables.

  • Make a schedule
  • Go to bed at the same time every day.
  • Avoid eating, taking phone calls in bed.
  • Leave your gadgets, mobile phone, tablets outside of your bedroom.
  • Isolate yourself from social media, OTT platforms at least one hour before sleeping.

There are many benefits in following a healthy and balanced lifestyle, a few of which are increased productivity, reduced stress levels, reduced health costs, increase confidence.

With health care costs and work engrossed stress, a well-proposed wellness plan can ease out the nervous system and prepare the mind and body to deliver the optimum levels. Another benefit of following healthy lifestyles is increasing the lifespan along with a healthy body as it is the only place we live until we die. Eat healthy, work out hard, sleep well and repeat the cycle at least five times a week.
